Q: What typically fits inside the Sac Plat GM?
A: With an approximate capacity based on its 40 × 35 × 9 cm measurements, it comfortably carries A4 documents, a 13-inch laptop in a slim sleeve, a tablet, diary, and small pouches. A very slim 14-inch device may fit depending on its case thickness. For best results, compare your device to the measurements shown on this page and avoid overfilling to maintain the bag’s structure.

Q: Is this the version with a shoulder strap or zip top?
A: No. This piece is the classic Sac Plat GM in Damier Ebene canvas with an open top and dual rolled leather handles for hand or crook-of-arm carry (approx. 12 cm handle drop). Later re-editions (such as Sac Plat BB/PM) may include a strap, and the “Venice” variations feature a zip closure, but this example is the traditional handheld style.

Q: Is the open top secure enough for commuting?
A: The Sac Plat is an open tote, so we recommend keeping valuables in a zipped pouch or bag organiser and positioning items below the rim. The structured sides help contents stay upright, but for travel or crowded spaces, additional pouches add security and organisation.

A: The interior is lined in red textile/microfibre and includes two flat slip pockets for small essentials. The main compartment is open and roomy, making it ideal for documents and tech carried in protective sleeves.

Q: How durable is Damier Ebene canvas and how should I care for it?
A: Damier Ebene is a coated canvas with leather trim—lightweight, hard-wearing and splash-resistant. Wipe the canvas with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth and dry gently. Avoid alcohol-based products (including hand sanitiser), harsh cleaners, or oils on both canvas and leather. Store the bag stuffed to support its shape, away from direct sunlight and humidity.

Q: Will it stand upright on its own?
A: Yes, the bag has a structured, flat base and slim profile. It stands when balanced with evenly distributed contents. To keep its shape over time, avoid heavy, point-loaded items and use pouches to stabilise contents.

Q: Where is the date code and what does it mean?
A: On many early-2000s Louis Vuitton pieces, the date code is heat-stamped on a small leather tab inside a pocket or along an interior seam and indicates factory and production period. Codes can fade with use, and from 2021 the brand began moving to embedded microchips instead of visible codes, so absence of a code does not imply inauthenticity. Our in-house team authenticates every item using multi-point checks regardless of a visible code.

A: The Sac Plat debuted in 1968 and the exact vintage GM configuration in classic open-top form is no longer part of the current line. Louis Vuitton has released modern re-editions in smaller sizes and alternative versions (some with zips or straps), but this large, open-top GM is considered a vintage design.
