A: It is a sophisticated Swiss-made automatic watch dating to 2002. This reference features a petite 26mm Oyster case crafted from stainless steel and 18k yellow gold, topped with a signature fluted gold bezel. Uniquely, this example showcases a rare white “Pyramid” dial with Roman numerals, adding a distinctive texture to the classic design.

Q: What makes the “Pyramid Dial” special?
A: The pyramid dial is characterised by a three-dimensional hobnail pattern (resembling tiny pyramids) across its surface. This intricate texture catches the light differently than standard flat or sunburst dials, giving the face of the watch exceptional depth and a refined, jewellery-like aesthetic.

Q: Which movement does this model use?
A: This 2002 Lady-Datejust is powered by the Rolex Calibre 2235, a self-winding mechanical movement celebrated for its reliability and precision. Unlike some older vintage models, this calibre features a “quickset” date, allowing you to adjust the date display rapidly without turning the hands through 24 hours.

Q: Is the watch water-resistant?
A: Originally, the Ref. 79173 was rated waterproof to 100 metres. However, water resistance on vintage timepieces cannot be guaranteed without recent pressure testing. We recommend treating it as splash-resistant only and avoiding swimming, showering, or submersion unless the seals have been professionally replaced and tested.

Q: Does it have a scratch-resistant crystal?
A: Yes, this model is fitted with a synthetic sapphire crystal, which is highly resistant to scratches and ensures the dial remains clear. It also features the iconic Cyclops lens at the 3 o’clock position to magnify the date for easier reading.

Q: How do I set the time and date safely?
A: Unscrew the crown anti-clockwise until it pops out. Position 1: Wind the watch manually (20–30 turns). Position 2: Pull gently to the first click to quickset the date. Position 3: Pull to the second click to set the time. Always push the crown in and screw it down firmly after setting to protect the movement from moisture and dust.

Q: What size wrist will it fit?
A: The watch is currently sized to fit a wrist of approximately 17.5 cm or smaller. It comes with three extra links, which can be added to the Jubilee bracelet for a larger fit. If you are unsure about sizing, please share your wrist measurement with us, and we can advise on the best fit.
